Politics or crazy person rantings...

Ok, typed this once, but it got sucked into the black hole of computer annoyingness. Since I have moved to this little island, my knowledge of U.S. events can be somewhat limited. Local news coverage is focused more on Taiwanese news and Taiwans relation with China. (China currently as many hundreds of missiles pointed at this little island. You do the math) I rely on blogs and online news source to stay up to date with current events.

Now, I have always known that the asshole (sorry Dad, you may not want to read this post) was just stupid. That all he cares about oil and money. The "average Joe" means nothing to him. But one thing that has made the news here is Katrina and the devestation left. Natural disasters happen no matter where in the world you live. But what I don't understand is the total lack of U.S. government response to Katrina. And I compare that with the response by the Taiwanese respose to typhoons. Everyone is ready "Just-In-Case." The day before the typhoon, everyone goes to the store and buys extra food and makes sure there is extra water, just-in-case. The government is prepared to respond, just-in-case. Because you never know. Now typhoons are more common in the part of the world. We have already had three typhoons this year and it looks like we will get the tail in of a fourth one in a day or two. Society, as a whole, is a little more prepared to deal with these types of disasters here.

But that is still no excuse for the lack of response on the part of the asshole in office. How long did people in New Orleans have to wait for help? The title of President of the United States is NOT synonymous with vacation or filling your pockets. Yet, this is what I see is going on from my point of view. My suggestion, Homeland Security needs to take care of the homeland from international, domestic, and natural threats. The money that department gets could be used to help the people in New Orleans. Some where is says "a government of the people, for the people, and by the people," but what happens when the people are dying because the government is busy with their vacation?

Other people have stated the same opinion I hold in much more logical and consise manners. But do help out those in New Orleans in any way you can. The government isn't going to, so we have to take on that responsibility. And then I am going to start looking for a French tutor because France is looking really good right now.
